We cannot overstress the importance of starting with a good image. The following general guidelines are helpful in making sure the picture you choose will result in a high-quality finished charcoal: 1. Large images (8" x 10") are usually better than smaller ones.
2. High resolution, in focus, high contrast images. 3. Something with personality, a twinkle in the eye, etc.
4. Digital or print is fine.
5. Facial shots rather than body shots.
6. Full face visible.
7. Color or black and white.
This is a very important part of the process. We recommend that you follow these guidelines and pick a handful of good candidates from the pictures you have available. We can talk through which one will produce the best result during our consultation prior to starting work on the portrait.
All CopyKatArt protraits are produced in compressed charcoal on high-quality, acid-free, 110 lb paper and are delivered in a protective cardboard sleeve. The finished work is coated with a fixative compound to prevent smearing during light handling which allows safe transport to the framing shop of your choice. CopyKatArt also provides basic framing services starting at an additional $50/portrait.
It is usually possible to send your candidate images through email and conduct portrait consultation over the phone. CopyKat can also meet in person when necessary at a local coffee shop prior to starting your project. It is customary to buy CopyKat a complimentary latte to get things off to a good start. CopyKatArt headquarters are located in West Little Rock so nearby locations like Guillermos or Starbucks on Rodney Parham are good choices.
